First look at Command & Conquer Remastered looks just like you remember

Enhanced or pure nostalgia at a flick of a switch

EA has shared a short gameplay snippet of Command & Conquer Remastered, giving us the first look at the remaster in motion. The highly detailed modern sprites look like the perfect blend between modernized visuals while also staying true to the original aesthetics. Watch it yourself here!

Old-school gamers rejoiced last year when news broke out that one of the grand-daddies of the real-time strategy genre would receive the remaster treatment. Command & Conquer has had an impact on the RTS genre like few others but the series died off in recent years. Electronic Arts has tried to rejuvenate the franchise with Command & Conquer Rivals for mobile devices but it neither managed to impress new gamers nor older generations.

After years of laying dormant, EA has decided to give the series a second chance in form remastering the first Command & Conquer and the likewise iconic Red Alert. While we previously saw the direction Command & Conquer Remastered was taking, today, at last, we are getting a much better look at it in form of a short video. There are also two animated comparison shots on the game’s website which you should absolutely check out to see how deep the enhancements really go compared to the mid-90s originals.

It’s great that EA went with high-fidelity 2D instead of going 3D, as Command & Conquer Remastered will stay true to the originals this way. Similar to Microsoft has gone with the excellent Age of Empires remasters. And by giving the remaster project into the hands of ex-Westwood developers, the likelihood of the project turning out as authentic as possible are pretty high. Still, for hardcore fans who want the blocky 90s original look, the developers have confirmed that with the remasters will feature a simple toggle that lets players switch between the upgraded and original visuals quickly in-game.
