2015's Ant-Man was a welcome surprise to many. Most average movie-goers didn't know much about Ant-Man, and considering his comic book-ey powers, many didn't expect a feature film of his heroics to amount to much. Then Paul Rudd proved them wrong. At the end of the film, we were told that Ant-Man would return with the Wasp, his female counterpart played by Evangeline Lilly. In 2017, we got the first look at her new costume for Ant-Man and the Wasp.
The reveal of Evangeline Lilly in her costume was no average event. It landed directly on the birthday of Jack Kirby, the man who created Ant-Man and Wasp. Yesterday afternoon when she posted the photo, it would have been Jack Kirby's 100th birthday.
Rudd and Lilly return to the spotlight along with Michael Douglas as Hank Pym and Michael Peña as Luis. Joining the cast in the sequel is Michelle Pfeiffer, Lawrence Fishburne and Randall Park. The film is directed by Peyton Reed, who helmed the first movie.
While the first film was a great success, Reed seems to think the second can only get better, as his fondness for Ant-Man and Wasp as a team was revealed In an interview with Modern Myth Media last year. "For me, as a comic nerd, I have always thought of Ant-Man and Wasp as a team," he said. "That's a lot of what the second movie is really about–how they work together, and what their personal and professional relationships are like.
"To show her finally fully formed in this movie is really exciting. We really get to introduce this character into that universe. To me she's not a supporting character in this movie. It's every bit as much her movie as it is Scott Lang's."
Ant-Man and the Wasp will release in theaters on July 6, 2018.
