First look at Wonder Woman in standalone film

You don't wanna mess with her.

Wonder Woman got some screen time in Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice, but it wasn't enough. Which is exactly why Wonder Woman is getting her own movie.

Entertainment Weekly released the first official photo from the film and it looks promising.

The movie will take the viewers to the island of Themyscira, a hidden island where the Amazon women of Greek mythology has lived for centuries in harmony free from the gaze of man. It also happens to be the birthplace of superhero Wonder Woman.

Wonder Woman

Since Wonder Woman has and will become an important character in the DC movies the Wonder Woman movie will be an origin story, showing a young princess Diana transforming into the greatest warrior that has ever walked this earth.

As with origin stories Wonder Woman will need help to prepare for the world where men are in power and to help her is her mother Queen Hippolyta (played by Connie Nielsen), and her two aunts, General Antiope (played by Robin Wright) and lieutenant Menalippe (played by Lisa Loven Kongsli). They will be in charge of raising the only child on an island without a single trace of testosterone. Her mother Hippolyta wants to shelter Diana from the outside world while her two aunts wants her to be prepared. Director Patty Jenkins says “She is the only child they raised together, […] And their love for her manifests in a different way for each of them.” so tensions will run high on what is best for this only child.

Patty Jenkins has gone through great lengths to be able to recreate as a believable replica of Themyscira as possible she has filmed both off teh coast of Italy and in southern China.

On the topic of costumes for the Wonder Woman movie Jenkins said "To me, they shouldn’t be dressed in armor like men,[…] It should be different. It should be authentic and real – and appealing to women." Jenkins continued "I, as a woman, want Wonder Woman to be hot as hell, fight badass, and look great at the same time – the same way men want Superman to have huge pecs and an impractically big body. That makes them feel like the hero they want to be. And my hero, in my head, has really long legs."

To find out if Patty Jenkins and her crew will succeed or not will take a while since is set to come out June 23, 2017. Until then we have to make due with Batman vs Superman, which in my opinion is the best superhero movie made.
