Many gamers really only learned about the NieR franchise after PlatinumGames’ excellent and outright unique action-adventure game from 2017. With philosophical themes, memorable characters, and great gameplay courtesy of PlatinumGames, Automata instantly became a cult hit. This success led to the original NieR game receiving the remaster treatment.
But unlike most other remasters, the original NieR from 2010 itself wasn’t even the real vision from series’ creator Yoko Taro to begin with. Indeed, with this remaster gamers outside of Japan will experience NieR for the first time as it was intended. A different protagonist and story elements are making it pretty much a different game altogether.
And after seeing today’s screenshots of NieR Replicant, there’s really no reason not to be excited. The last-gen original was a drab title with lifeless colors and already felt dated back in the day. So, it’s very nice to see that Square Enix is putting the extra effort into Replicant by vastly enhancing the game’s presentation.
It’s almost a disservice to call it a remaster as it looks more like a full-on remake at this point. Not only are the visuals getting a massive rework but PlatinumGames is also helping with the development of NieR Replicant as to improve the actual gameplay and bring it up to par with NieR Automata. After all, it’s only thanks to Automata and PG’s outstanding work there that prompted this remaster in the first place.
As if the screenshots above weren’t good news already, we also get several new artworks of NieR Replicant as well. You can see them below!
