There's been a lot of worrisome fans awaiting the first trailer for Michael Bay's live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. After finally releasing earlier today, I can say this: I don't hate it.
The first trailer does a good job of setting up the Turtles as heroes. It has explosions, some action pieces, Megan Fox, and a glimpse of the Shredder. Also, Leonardo looks awesome. Michelangelo on the other hand…
The only problem I have with the trailer is the CGI turtles. They look really fake. Like… The Phantom Menace bad. I'll reserve more judgment for when I see the movie, but right now, the first trailer does a pretty decent job of making sure our heroes in a half shell aren't aliens.
The synopsis for TMNT is:
The city needs heroes. Darkness has settled over New York City as Shredder and his evil Foot Clan have an iron grip on everything from the police to the politicians. The future is grim until four unlikely outcast brothers rise from the sewers and discover their destiny as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The Turtles must work with fearless reporter April and her wise-cracking cameraman Vern Fenwick to save the city and unravel Shredder's diabolical plan.
TMNT stars William Fichtner as The Shredder and Megan Fox as April O'neal. The movie opens in theaters on August 8, 2014.
