First two Batman Arkham games to be remastered for PS4 and Xbox One, report claims

A new report from IGN Italy claims that Batman Arkham Asylum and Arkham City — the first two titles in Warner Bros. acclaimed action series — are going to be remastered for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Although a total of three Batman Arkham games have been released, only the first two — the two reportedly being remastered — have been developed by Rocksteady Studios. The third and most recent title, Arkham Origins, was developed by Warner Bros. Games Montréal. A fourth title in the series, Arkham Knight — developed once again by Rocksteady — is on track to release in June of this year following a slight delay announced today.

Warner Bros. has yet to verify the rumor, but should it be true, the remastered versions of Arkham Asylum and Arkham City are expected to release by Christmas. That would be months after the release of Arkham Knight — belived to be the third and conclusive chapter in the Rocksteady-developed trilogy.

Seeing as how Arkham Knight will be available on PS4 and Xbox One, it wouldn't be a surprise if Warner Bros. were to remaster the older titles. It just seems a bit odd that they would release after the newest installment. You figure the publisher would want to help new console owners catch up in the series or refresh their memories by releasing the remastered versions first. Then again, a late 2015 release could encourage late adopters to buy into the series with some sort of holiday bundle.

Again, nothing has been confirmed just yet, but seeing as how just about every other last-gen game is being remastered I wouldn't be surprised to see the same for Batman Arkham. Both games definitely deserve the remake as they were both very well received upon release. As for Arkham Origins' omission, well, no surprise there.
