If animatronic animals and people in giant rat costumes bring back terrifying memories from your childhood, as long as you never step into a Chuck-E-Cheese you should be fine, right? No. You aren't safe anymore.
Scott Cawthon's horror game Five Nights at Freddy's has been picked up by Warner Bros. and is currently being proposed to writers to be made into a movie.
If you're unfamiliar with the game, it's all about surviving a night locked inside Freddy Fazbear's Pizza (a much, much darker version of Chuck-E-Cheese). The Pizza place is filled with animatronic animals that perform music for kids during the day and have slightly murderous tendencies at night. — by slightly murderous, I mean they will kill you.
The film adaptation will be produced by Roy Lee, the man behund the Polterfeist remake, with help from Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg, the guys that are developing the Beetlejuice sequel.
The game's creator thinks a lot of people can relate to the horrors of animatronic creatures (I have never been chased by murderous animatronic creatures), saying "The story really lends itself to being a movie and it taps into a largely unexplored niche of horror that a lot of people will be able to relate to."
If I find a photo of myself crying at Chuck-E-Cheese, I will attach it to this article — no doubt.
Edit:
Obviously I wasn't thrilled:
