Flappy Bird creator to release next game, Swing Copters, on Thursday

If you're Dong Nguyen, how do you follow-up the wildly successful Flappy Bird? You create another game just like it, except shift gameplay to the Y-axis.

Nguyen, who made headlines late last year with the release of Flappy Bird, is readying to release his next game, and Touch Arcade has the scoop. It's called Swing Copters and it pretty much looks just like Flappy Bird, but this time with vertical gameplay. Once again, you'll be controlling an adorable critter as you attempt to navigate through the skies. Tapping the screen will send the beady-eyed creature with a propeller on its head left or right so you can avoid platforms with swinging hammers. Get hit once and it's game over.

As you can see, the same mechanics that made Flappy Bird a raging, frustrating success are still very much present in Swing Copters. The game will be available this Thursday, August 21 for iOS and Android. It'll be a free download with an in-app purchase of $0.99 to remove the ads. Think it'll beat the addictiveness of Flappy Bird
