Roughly over a week ago it was reported that Deadpool director Tim Miller had stepped away from developing the sequel after having creative differences with Ryan Reynolds on things like casting. Supposedly there's no bad blood between Miller and Fox and the studio is eyeing a variety of different directors to replace him, but Miller has already moved on to his next project.
Miller's next project is a film adaptation of Sega's iconic blue critter, Sonic the Hedgehog! The Hollywood Reporter reports that the former visual effects artists has jumped on to the film at Sony as an executive producer with a longtime friend Miller worked with during his time at Blur Studios, Jeff Fowler. Fowler will make his directorial debut with the film.
Miller spoke about Fowler and praised him for his talents. “Jeff is an incredible director with strong story instincts. The world of Sonic presents the perfect opportunity for him to leverage his experience in animation to bring new dimension to this iconic character.”
The film will be a CG-animation hybrid with a family-friendly tone, most likely similar to the Ratchet and Clank film that released earlier this year. There are no plot details for the film at this time but the movie has a release date of 2018.
