Former SimCity dev releases mod for Cities: Skylines’ coal power plant

A former Maxis Emeryville employee that worked as an artist on SimCity (2013) has created a mod for the new city building simulator, Cities: Skylines. It's an art mod that takes the base Coal Power Plant and changes its look (along with some fine details).

What in-game changes can you expect if you use the mod? There will be some slightly increased stats: a minor increase in noise pollution and increased construction cost.

The creator took this mod to the official subreddit for the game in order to share it with the community. What happened next was pretty great. The mod creator was contacted by a Paradox employee and offered a job! For those who didn't hear, EA closed Maxis Emeryville — the studio behind SimCity and Spore — earlier this month. Honestly, if I was Paradox or Colassal Order I would be poaching the SimCity devs too. Despite its glaring flaws, the developers of SimCity had some pretty great vision. And remember, without the ideas established at Maxis Emeryville, there's a chance we wouldn't have the great game that is Cities: Skylines.

Take this:

Turn it into this:

Much better.
