Former Ubisoft exec. Jade Raymond joins EA, forms new Motive Studios

One of Ubisoft's veteran producers, Jade Raymond, has left the company and joined EA in order to form her own studio.

Called Motive Studios, it will function under EA's control and her first task will be supporting Amy Hennig's ongoing project at Visceral. The name Motive Studios was inspired by the idea that "Motive" means opportunity, according to their new official site.

Mentioning a new IP title in her statement, Ms. Raymond said that "Motive will be a creative-driven team, incubating entirely new IP and taking on some amazing projects. The first one is going to be really exciting – we’re going to work on Amy Hennig’s Star Wars game!".

The new studio will be located in Raymond's hometown of Montreal, Canada,w here they will work "in close quarters" with the BioWare team.

"Yanick Roy and the BioWare Montreal team are doing some new and exciting things with Mass Effect: Andromedaand it's clear that there is already so much talent to collaborate with on site. And as a player of the latest Battlefield and Dragon Age games, I have experienced what the Frostbite engine can do; and I can't wait to get my hands on it and see what a new team can create!" Raymond added.

Raymond left Ubisoft last year after ten years at the industry giant that has since become the largest video game company in the world after passing EA, ironically. Her original title was the Assassin's Creed game, but has also worked on a number of projects at Ubisoft.

Although she originally departed in October seeking new opportunities, this is kind of a big deal as our friend Ron Burgundy would say. EA scooping back up one of their own from the only company bigger than them hopefully starts to put EA back on the right path as far as trust is concerned with its fans and players of its games. Working at Visceral, she will be taking over the position left vacant by Steve Papoutsis earlier this year.

You can view Ms. Raymond's complete statement on the Motive studios official site here and we'll have more info as its released for you.
