Epic Games' upcoming action-strategy game, Fortnite, is starting its first closed alpha test today, December 2. Epic Games is sending out invites to players who had previously signed up for it, so check your emails for an invite. If you haven't registered, Epic Games is still accepting sign-ups for future tests.
A "few thousand" players will get to play in the closed alpha, being referred to as Online Test 1. It will run from December 2 to December 19. Epic Games has said that during this phase of alpha testing, they are making sure all of the basic stuff (launcher, game systems) is working so they can get real feedback from the players. They also stated that "The game is still rough around the edges but we think it can benefit from your input even at this early stage."
For those of you unfamiliar with the game, Fortnite is a living, action building game. Players lead a group of heroes to reclaim and rebuild a homeland that has been left empty by the mysterious darkness known as "the Storm." Players band together to build extravagant forts, find or build insane weapons and traps and protect your towns from the monster coming from the Storm.
Right now, Fortnite is only being developed for PC as a free-to-play title. It is scheduled for a 2015 release.
