Fortnite’s Battle Royale mode, for all the controversy that initially surrounded it, has found a solid footing within the genre. For a game that could have just as quickly been forgotten within weeks after launch, its Battle Royale mode has launched the game into the stratosphere and has been a mainstay among the most prominent titles out there.
Fortnite’s lead systems designer Eric Williamson dropped by in a brief new update video to talk about additions that will be coming to the map, namely new points of interest and an added emphasis on better defining its biomes. Check it out below.
The map update, set to launch next week, will feature a bunch of new points of interest to fill out the space of the open world a bit more. The city and the motel were teased in the video, and it looks like most of the named points of interest will be scattered on the western part of the map.
Biomes are also a big focal point of the update, as Williamson describes the swamps feeling “swampy-er” and the mountains feeling more “mountain-y.” The idea is that as you travel around the map, players will feel as though they are genuinely in a different place.
Of course, there will also be additional “quality of life improvements,” though what exactly they remain a mystery. Fortunately, we don’t have to wait long to find out.
Fornite Battle Royale is available now free-to-play on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
