Fortnite’s ‘Battle Royale’ mode to go free-to-play on Xbox One, PS4, PC/Mac next week

Even though you can find physical versions of Fortnite for sale on store shelves, the game is still in Early Access. At some point next year, the game is planned to go entirely free-to-play, but in the meanwhile, only one part of the game is going free-to-play.

Fortnite's 100 player PvP mode, Battle Royale, will be going free-to-play for everyone across all platforms the game is available on (PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Mac). The change from paid Early Access to free-to-play will be coming on September 26th.

On this date, the developers will also introduce an update to the game mode by introducing 'Squads' to the game. 

Fortnite's PvE campaign, 'Save the World,' will not be going free-to-play with this update and will remain behind the wall of paid 'Early Access.' Additionally, Epic Games detailed that they have "lots" of updates on the way for PvE players.
