Forza Horizon 2 will launch without tokens

Forza Horizon 2 will launch without "tokens," the virtual currency in the Forza franchise that's used to acquire new cars by spending real world money. Playground Games' Ralph Fulton explained it won't include microtransactions at launch because they've developed the game "to be fair, to be fun, to be rewarding."

"That's incredibly important to us. For that reason, we will launch in September without tokens," Fulton told Digital Spy.

Instead, Forza Horizon 2's unlock system is designed to allow players to try out new cars quickly. You'll be able to gain early access to premium vehicles through a "fruit machine, tombola-style" system similar to one featured in the original Forza Horizon. Every time you level up, you'll have a chance at "The Horizon Wheel Spin." Depending on your luck, Fulton said, you could be driving a Bugatti Veyron after playing the game for just 30 minutes.

It's possible Forza Horizon 2 could eventually bring back tokens, but given the backlash Microsoft received for microtransactions in Forza Motorsport 5, I don't think they are in any hurry to do so. Forza Horizon 2 is set to launch September 30 for Xbox One and Xbox 360.
