Forza Motorsport 6 adds Token microtransactions

Forza Motorsport 5 was basically a "freemium" type game with a $60 initiation fee; you had the choice to purchase any in-game item with real-world money by purchasing Tokens, thus circumventing the progression style gameplay that most games employ.

With the release of Forza Motorsport 6, the developers at Turn10 made it seem like they had learned their lesson, but it looks like we should have paid more attention to the wording. Prior to the game's release Turn10 told OXM magazine that "Everything is tuned for 'no tokens' at launch." Note the at "at launch," which left room for everything after launch.

Regardless, Forza fans believed in Turn10's microtransaction-free future — especially because Turn 10's content director John Wendl made it seem like there would be absolutely no microtransactions… Unless fans asked for it.

"We just basically wanted to remove that sort of friction. The only way microtransactions would come back is if sometime in the life cycle, players are asking for it, just as an option or something like that," said Wendl in an interview with Shacknews (via VideoGamer) before Forza 6's release. "We're hoping the in-game economy will support how people will play the game."

That means some lazy gamer has been asking for a quick way around having to actually play the game and earn Tokens, because the ability to purchase Tokens is officially in Forza 6 (spotted by TeamVVV).

  • 100 Forza Motorsport 6 Tokens – $0.99
  • 325 Forza Motorsport 6 Tokens – $2.99
  • 575 Forza Motorsport 6 Tokens – $4.99
  • 1250 Forza Motorsport 6 Tokens – $9.99
  • 2700 Forza Motorsport 6 Tokens – $19.99
  • 8000 Forza Motorsport 6 Tokens – $49.99
  • 20000 Forza Motorsport 6 Tokens $99.99

If you say you aren't going to add microtransactions, stick with  it.
