Four new animals added to Tokyo Jungle today

Sony's surprise hit Tokyo Jungle is set to receive four new animals today, SCEA assistant producer Dais Kawaguchi announced today.

For those unfamiliar, Tokyo Jungle is a unique little survival, action game which pits players in a deserted, futuristic Tokyo. With the city transformed into a vicious wildlife wasteland, your goal is to play through missions centered around various animals, eventually discovering the truth behind mankind's disappearance. There is also a survival mode for those who just want ot take control of an animal and survive for as long as possible.

While the list of playable animal characters is already quite lengthy (52 types according to producer Masaaki Yamagiwa), today comes four new animals: Crocodile, Giraffe, Kangaroo, and Panda. In addition, SCEA is also giving away more costumes on the PlayStation Store this afternoon.

Fans of the game can likely look forward to more playable characters in the future. Who knows, with raptors already in the game, maybe we'll see a T-Rex. According to Yamagiwa, it may not be entirely out of the question.

"I wanted to have a T-Rex because I love monster movies like Godzilla," said when asked if there are any animals he wished he could have included in the game. "Our prototype actually had a stage where a T-Rex crashes through the freeway and chases animals."

If you haven't yet checked out Tokyo Jungle, I suggest you do so. In our review, GameZone Editor-in-Chief Michael Splechta wrote, "A game like Tokyo Jungle is exactly what the American PSN population needs." You can read the full review here.

Sony didn't specify if the DLC would be free or for a price, but we have contacted them to find out.
