After four years in Early Access, Rust is going to make a full release. The transition from Early Access to a release will come with a few alterations.
There will be no “big reveals, launch parties, around the world tours or cash prize giveaways for this event.” Staff will not be moving onto other projects, the game will simply release on February 8th.
There will be some changes though, as the game is not yet complete. Rust’s weekly updates will transition to monthly updates, in order to keep the game stable. The developers have described this transition as the ‘prototype’ version of the game finally entering its ‘Alpha’.
Additionally, the price for Rust will be increased from its current $19.99 to $34.99.
Back in 2013, Garry Newman, the creator of Garry’s Mod, first released the survival video game known as Rust on Steam’s Early Access program. The game came while DayZ was in its hype phase and was essentially a clone of the game, except with the addition of crafting.
In Rust, players spawn as a male or female character, there is no choice in any aspect of your character – that means the character’s sex, height, race, appearance and even breast/dong size are determined by a players SteamID. The whole point of the game is to survive.
Over the past few years, the game saw some changes. Rust has been updated with animals, new craftables, and more, including female characters. When female characters were first added in 2016 the game’s three year long sausage-fest came to an end, only to be met with drama. Players spoke out about being forced to play as female characters at first, but the drama fell into obscurity over the last two years.
