Activision held their earnings call today and it revealed that there are still plenty of people that love their games. How many people? The numbers are in the millions.
Hearthstone and Destiny are killing it. "Combined, these franchises attracted over 40 million registered players worldwide and generated more than $850 million in non‐GAAP revenue," said Activision CEO Bobby Kotick.
Hearthstone currently has over 25 million players, while Destiny (the #1 new console IP launch game in history) has about 16 million registered players. Those aren't the only Activision (remember Activision and Blizzard are tied together) games that are popular. Call of Duty Advanced Warfare was the #1 console game globally in 2014 and has pulled in over $11 Billion.
Skylanders also has a #1 title for 2014, it was the top console game for kids in the world – 240 million Skylander toys have been sold to date.
As for the old time Blizzard favorites, World of Warcraft ended 2014 with 10 million subscribers and is the #1 subscription-based MMORPG in the world. Diablo III: Reaper of Souls was the #1 PC RPG of the year.
