First off, if you haven't watched the original series, watch it. Now we shall proceed.
FOX has officially confirmed that the highly anticipated return of Prison Break is currently under development, with original plans featuring both main characters Michael and Lincoln.
FOX's co-chairmen and CEOs Dana Walden and Gary Newman confirmed the speculation surrounding the show's return today at the TCA press tour. Confirming the inclusion of main characters, Newman said: "Paul Scheuring came in and pitched a great story to bring the show back. It’s going to bring back both brothers Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell. Paul's busy writing the first episode and a [series] bible."
This is all good and well, but how do they plan to fit the characters in? After all ***spoiler*** Michael was killed off at the end of the original series, which could make his arrival pretty confusing. However, there are some alternatives to think about, one being Michael faking his own death… We shall have to wait and see.
Although Wentworth Miller's character died to close the series back in 2009, it would seem that FOX has a pretty solid plan to weave him back in. Walden said that the new miniseries "will start with where we left the Scofields in the final season."
It must be said, plans to bring back Michael has went down pretty well with the show's fans, however the ways in which he shall be introduced have left many sceptical. In an act to seemingly reassure the fanbase and to explain a little further as to where Scofield will come into the fold, Walden said the following:
"Yes, he is going to be ignoring the straight to video show. It is past Season 4. As Dana said, it’s several years past when the series ended. I wouldn’t want to give away too much of what Paul has planned, but he had a very detailed, incredible story for why these characters become relevant again and why to bring them back. I think it’s going to be very exciting. As Dana said, this is just one of those shows that notwithstanding it being off the air for five, six years, or however long it’s been, it still generates buzz and enthusiasm, especially online. So we think it’s going to be a great treat for the audience."
"I don’t think he’s going to completely ignore what happened in that episode, but what he pitched to us was a very logical and believable — in the world of Prison Break — explanation for why our characters are alive and still moving around the world" he added.
Can clarify, the world of Prison Break is pretty crazy. Absolutely anything could happen…
