Free Assassin’s Creed Unity as part of Ubisoft’s Notre Dame campaign

Major French game publisher and developer Ubisoft announced the company’s plans to help the restoration of the recently fire-ravaged historical Notre Dame Cathedral in France. The gaming giant vows to pledge €500,000 towards the repairs and wants gamers to donate themselves by giving away Assassin’s Creed Unity on PC.

As you might have heard by now, this Monday marked a tragic event for the world-known Notre Dame Cathedral of Paris. A massive fire broke out in the church, likely caused by an accident during renovation works, which has left one of Paris’ most important landmarks in ruins. The entire church burned for hours on end, culminating in an utterly destroyed roof and massive damage to the UNESCO Word Heritage Site.

The news of the tragic accident hit people all over the world who value culture and history, but probably no one more than the French people themselves. As such, wealthy Frenchmen have stepped forwards and donated already over $700 Million for the inevitable restoration efforts. One of these donators is Ubisoft. As a French company located in Paris, the people at Ubisoft were among the most saddened by the Notre Dame fire.

When we created Assassin’s Creed Unity, we developed an even closer connection with this incredible city and its landmarks – one of the most notable elements of the game was the extraordinary recreation of Notre-Dame. Video games can enable us to explore places in ways we never could have otherwise imagined. We hope, with this small gesture, we can provide everyone an opportunity to appreciate our virtual homage to this monumental piece of architecture.

So, as to not feel helpless and aide the restoration, Ubisoft announced that they are going to donate €500,000. That’s not all however. Ubisoft also wants more people to take part in the donation run and has thus decided to give away Assassin’s Creed Unity away for free on PC. You can grab the game via Uplay or the Ubisoft Store.

Assassin’s Creed Unity launched back in 2014 to ho-hum reception, but that was mainly due to technical issues which were patched ever since. The game is set in Paris during the 18th century and prominently features an incredible digital version of the Notre Dame Cathedral .
