Yet another Early Access and indie sensation is now finally launching in version 1.0 with Freeman: Guerrilla Warfare. The sandbox RPG-strategy FPS offers huge amounts of freedom and gives players the option to amass an army and take over the world. Watch the launch trailer here!
Freeman: Guerrilla Warfare has been enjoying the status of hidden gem ever since it launched on Steam Early Access in February 2018. Indie developer KK Game Studio used the in-development release method just as it was intended by Valve, by adding and improving their unique shooter throughout the months. Yes, the game still looks a bit janky but given what it offers to player, it’s easily forgivable. It simply has so much going for it.
The easiest way to describe Guerilla Warfare would be to say it’s a mix between the addictive Mount & Blade games in a modern military setting. In the truest meaning of the world, players are put inside a large open world where different factions are vying for absolute control. While in other, more traditional games you’d be part of one in a grand quest, here you are literally a nobody. Weak and alone you have to take on simple tasks and missions from strong factions. Over the course of your playthrough, you will get better weapons, gear and followers.
A major aspect of Freeman: Guerrilla Warfare is the players ability to recruit NPCs and create their very own army. As you get stronger, you take over regions and erase factions from existence. It’s a simple design but it gets surprisingly deep and personal when you loose an old comrade in battle or defeat a hostile army that tormented you early on.
