Back in 2015 Paramount put the Friday the 13th reboot into development hell. The movie's release had been planned for 2015, then 2016, and now 2017. Meanwhile, the CW has been planning a drama series based off of the classic horror film – another part of the Friday the 13th family that has faded off into obscurity.
With Paramount and Platinum Dunes forming a partnership to bring the long awaited movie to life, co-founder Brad Fuller has come forth with some good news for the film. According to Fuller, the script is coming along quite well.
“We have a great writer – Aaron Guzikowski is writing the script. Aaron wrote Prisoners. He’s a better writer than we deserve for this franchise. He’s fantastic,” Fuller told This is Infamous (via ComicBook.com). “The script that he has come up with is really great, and we got it a couple weeks ago. We gave our notes to Aaron, the studio gave their notes to Aaron, and we’re waiting for the script to come back.”
“Yes, there have been false starts – some of them self-created. I didn’t want to do a found footage version of that movie, and there were some people who wanted that to happen. As long as that was the case, I was dragging my feet because I thought we’d get killed. And it just didn’t feel like the right way to make the movie. We are on the right track now to make the movie the right way.”
Despite all of the setbacks, Fuller claims the movie in on 'the right track.' While the V/H/S director, David Bruckner, was the last director attached to the film – he has moved on. Whether he will come back or not is unclear, apparently 'the right track' doesn't have a director.
The new Friday the 13th movie is scheduled for release on Jan. 13, 2017.
