In August of last year, The CW announced plans to develop a TV series based on Friday the 13th. At the time, The CW revealed that the show would be a "sophisticated horror/crime" series based off the long-running franchise, written by Steve Mitchell & Craig Van Sickle, the creators of the 1996 NBC series "The Pretender" through CBS TV Studios.
According to Collider, the show would have followed a detective's ongoing search for his missing brother in a case tied to both the masked serial killer Jason Voorhees and Crystal Lake.
Unfortunately, Jason Voorhees won't be hitting The CW anytime soon, The CW has ceased development on the series. Apparently, the pilot for the series had been reviewed and the series was found wanting.
“We didn’t believe it was a sustainable script or a sustainable series,” said network president Mark Pedowitz. “It was a very good pilot, but not a sustainable series.”
While this might sound like bad news, it isn't completely bad news. Once The CW's rights to the script expire in January they will offer it up to other Networks. We can only hope the Netflix picks this bad boy up and gives it a go. Meanwhile, we can look forward to a Friday the 13th reboot that's due to release sometime next year.
