FTL expansion and iPad port on course for 2014

Developer Subset Games has announced a new, free expansion for its popular space-strategy game FTL: Faster Than Light. It's coming in early 2014 as an update to the existing PC game.

FTL: Advanced Edition is a "huge content addition" that introduces a mind control system to temporarily turn enemies into allies, a hacking feature to disrupt enemy systems, new sectors and events, additional weapons, and more.

Subset has also made some small, requested tweaks, such as the ability to save crew positions, the option to save and quit midcombat, and bigger store inventories.

And yes, you can choose to disable all the new content if you wish.

The developer also announced that a port of FTL is coming to iPad — and hopefully other mobile platforms. "Expanding tablet support will be our next highest priority, but we don’t want to make any promises (or rejections) until we’re 100 percent sure of the outcome," wrote Subset's Matthew Davis.

"Unfortunately, FTL will not be coming to phones."

The iPad version will include the expansion and launch alongside the PC update next year.
