Funcom, the developers of upcoming MMORPG The Secret World, have announced another project to develop a massively multiplayer online game based on the popular LEGO Minifigures franchise.
The MMO will be a "prominent part" of the LEGO MInifigures online experience which currently offers Flash games, competitions, and a way to track your own Minifigure collection.
“The market for family-friendly online experiences intended for children and youngsters is brimming with potential,” said Funcom CEO Trond Arne Aas. “Being able to work with a world-renowned brand such as the LEGO brand to develop an MMO for this audience is incredibly exciting to us as game developers and for Funcom as a company."
"This is source material we all know and love and we simply cannot wait to get started working with the LEGO Group on realizing this exciting project," he added.
It's unknown if this new MMO will be free-to-play, browser-based, or a full retail launch, but given Funcom's strategy of "maximum accessibility" for it, I'd imagine it will have little-to-no barrier to entry.
Meanwhile, Funcom is currently gearing up for their release of another MMORPG, The Secret World, which is set to launch on July 3rd. This is a darker online experience that brings to life every myth, conspiracy theory and urban legend in a unique modern-day setting.
