Game of Thrones: A Telltale Game Series gets its first teaser trailer, still no release date

Game of Thrones cast members reprising their roles

Telltale Games has released the first trailer — a mere teaser — for their Game of Thrones series. Following last week's in-depth description of the premiere season, the nearly minute-long trailer offers a brief overview, featuring voice over from Cersei Lannister.

"For centuries the Forresters have been loyal bannermen to House Stark — a house of traitors," Cersei, who is being voiced by Lena Heady, is heard saying.  "You rely on your Iron Wood, that much is clear."

"It would be a shame to see it fall into the hands of another house. I imagine you'd do anything prevent that from happening, wouldn't you?" she warns.

Game of Thrones Cersei

As we learned last week, Telltale's game series is based on the world, characters, and events of HBO's TV show, Game of Thrones, which in turn is based on George R.R. Martin's books, A Song of Ice and Fire. In the game, you will control five members of House Forrester in their story, interacting with fan favorite characters throughout the season. Caught up in the events of The War of the Five Kings, you will be placed in a precarious position "where members of the household must do everything they can to prevent the house from meeting its doom," as Cersei so eloquently threatened in the teaser.

House Forrester hasn't been shown in HBO's series, but it is mentioned in the books. Here's a brief rundown of the House's background, courtesy of Telltale.

House Forrester is a noble house from the Wolfswood in the north of Westeros. Bannermen to House Glover, they have always offered unswerving loyalty to the ruling great house of the North – the Starks. The Forresters are seated at Ironrath, an imposing stronghold surrounded by towering ironwood trees. Built over fifteen hundred years ago by Cedric Forrester and his triplet sons, Ironrath is a testament to the strength and endurance of Ironwood. The Forrester house words are 'Iron from Ice', which echoes their belief that – like the ironwood itself – the adverse conditions and unforgiving landscape of the North only makes them stronger.

The events in the game series begin towards the end of Season Three of the HBO series, and end right before the beginning of Season Five. As is tradition for a Telltale series, the decisions you make will have a ripple affect on the rest of House Forrester and even other characters in the series.

"Playing as five characters not only reflects the epic scope of Game of Thrones, but is also something that the player needs to be mindful of. This is because the actions of one character can ripple out to affect the rest of House Forrester. Multiply the actions of one character by five, and you're truly playing the Game of Thrones… where you win, or you die," Telltale teases.

In addition to the trailer, Telltale also confirmed that some cast members from the HBO series will reprise their roles in the game. This includes Tyrion Lannister performed by Peter Dinklage, Cersei Lannister performed by Lena Heady, Margaery Tyrell performed by Natalie Dormer, and Ramsay Snow performed by Iwan Rheon, with additional cast members appearing in later episodes (except for everyone who already died leading up to the end of Season Three).

Game of Thrones: A Telltale Games Series will premiere on Xbox One, PS4, Xbox 360, PS3, and iOS, with additional platforms to be announced. The first season will consist of six episodes, with the first — "Iron From Ice" — set to debut soon. Telltale still doesn't have a release date for Iron From Ice, but promises to announced a date soon.
