HBO confirms the eighth season of 'Game of Thrones' will officially be the end of the fantasy epic series.
The most watched HBO series ever, 'Game of Thrones', has been going strong for five years now, having recently concluded its sixth season. The series has garnered a loyal fanbase and cult following that will leave the show a cherished memory until it finally comes to an end. Despite the massive viewership and growing supporters, it seems the end of the show is steadily approaching.
HBO Programming President, Casey Bloys, has recently made the announcement that 'Game of Thrones' season eight, while still a few years out, will officially be the show's final season. He assures fans that the decision was entirely up to the showrunners, making it clear that they plan to end it at a crucial point, before they feel they can no longer deliver on the spectacle for which GoT has come to be known. Bloys had this to say:
"Yes, I think [the showrunners, D.B. Weiss and David Benioff] have a very specific plan about the number of seasons they want to do. If I could get them to do more, I would take 10 seasons but we want to take their lead with what they could do and what the best version of the show is."
