Game of Thrones. A show of tragedy, loss, and betrayal. The show that taught us that nobody is sacred and everyone can, and probably will, die. For those caught up with the show, you know who Stannis Baratheon is, and you know how this show makes you hate a character at one point, and feel for them at another. Well, the original final scene with Stannis is just that sort of scene.
We know that Stannis was beheaded by Brienne after he sacrificed his daughter to win a battle against Winterfell… and then lost. Stannis is always painted as a stoic, even crazy person. His original death had him stoic as always, but with a look of loss. "Do your duty," He tells Brienne before she cut his head off.
But a Reddit user named CloudDragon94 found the original script for the season 5 finale, and inside was a few extra lines to go with his demise:
STANNIS: Do you believe in the life to come?
(Brienne nods)
STANNIS: I don't. But if I'm wrong, and you're right… tell Renly I'm sorry when you get there. I don't imagine I'll see him wherever I'm going. (beat) And my daughter. Tell her… tell her…
('Sorry' doesn't even begin to cover what he feels about Shireen. The thought of it brings tears to his eyes, and he's not going to die weeping in front of a woman he doesn't know. Stannis stares up at her.)
STANNIS: Go on, do your duty.
So what's better? The given up, "just kill me" Stannis, or the almost actually showing emotion Stannis?
