Game of Thrones to become a Facebook game

HBO has partnered with Disruptor Beam, a social games developer, to bring George R. R. Martin's A Game of Thrones to Facebook.

A successful fantasy cycle (still in development), an acclaimed television show, a recent RPG — that's more than proof enough that Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series is a strong favorite with audiences. Now it's coming to the popular social networking site as Game of Thrones Ascent.

Disruptor hopes to please fans of both the show and books with a faithful representation of Martin's story and characters. In Ascent, players assume the role of a noble in Westeros, pledging their loyalty to a great house of their choosing, securing their holdings, developing their territory and reputation, and sending swordsmen on quests all while forging alliances with fellow players.

"Everyone at Disruptor Beam was a huge fan of Game of Thrones long before we began working on the game, so we recognize that other fans expect character-driven conflict and intrigue to take center stage in our new game," said Jon Radoff, CEO of Disruptor Beam. "Westeros is the perfect setting to deliver on our vision of weaving stories through decisions and social interactions. Game of Thrones Ascent will bring the world of Westeros to the over 500 million social game players in the market today, featuring original artwork in a highly engaging game experience that is, most importantly, fun for fans and their friends!"
