GameDock, transforming your iOS into a console

So there has been that phrase “mobile phones will be the next gaming consoles” going around for a while causing gamers to roll their eyes for some time now.  Well… Cascadia Games is nearly done developing a hardware that will help push your iOS products closer to this goal.  Trust me, I’m as surprised as you are.

The GameDock is hardware allows you to place your iPhone or iPad on it transforming it into a gaming console.  Through a HDMI adaptor, you’ll be able to play your iOS games on a HD television up to 1080p.  With TWO USP retro controllers (modeled after the Nintendo Entertainment System controllers) allow one to two players to play at the same time.  Oh, and you can switch what game you play through a GameDock app so there is no need to ever get up.  If you don’t have a TV, you can still hock the iOS device and use the controllers – no more clunky screen controls.

Retro

If this is something you are interested in or would like to support, there is currently a Kickstarter page for it with 42 days still left to go.  The $100 backing for a GameDock is already sold out but there are plenty of the $150 GameDock that comes with a HDMI adapter and retro controller.

While this won’t work on every iOS game, currently there are over 100 games it will work on.  If this thing takes off you know more and more games will be added to the list.  The GameDock will be a huge boon to both retro and indie games – that is something to support.
