Last week, it was reported that thieves broke into a hospital's child cancer ward in Wellington, New Zealand and stole a bolted down PlayStation 4. The device had been used to help children through their chemotherapy sessions and was used by around 15 patients.
While the actions of those thieves were awful, the gaming community rose up to right the wrongdoings of those thieves. Since the story was shared, around 12 consoles and 15 games had been donated and the Wellington Hospitals Foundation received $5,000 in donations. One man, who was in a hospital bed himself in the UK, purchased a PlayStation 4online and sent it straight to the Wellington hospital.
According to the hospital's chairman Bill Day, it was the biggest response the foundation had ever seen. "We just want to thank everyone who has donated PlayStations, games, and money." Once the donations taper off and things settle down, the staff will begin spreading out the donations to all the children's wards in the hospital.
As for the nine-year-old cancer patient Angus Little who spoke out initially, he says thanks for helping him see that "good always beats bad."
