Gamers have officially played 1 billion matches of Rocket League

Rocket League is one of those games that feels like it's more difficult not to hear about than it is to be in the know. After it's popularity skyrocketed as a PSN monthly giveaway, the game got so popular, that the fact that it didn't see any income for its first month on PlayStation 4 hardly matters. It has gone on to sell incredibly well on PC and Xbox One and likely made more than a fair number of stragglers on PS4 pony up the $15. It was the PS4's most downloaded game of 2016 after all.

Today, Developer Psyonix posted a tweet revealing that players have officially played 1 billion matches across all platforms from the moment the game released in July of 2015. Here's the tweet:

The data above shows that 500 million of the games played were Competitive, a wide margin compared to the other three modes. Rocket League's longevity is without question, and it is helped by the fact that Psyonix has continued to support the game through additional maps, modes, and unlocks. Suffice it to say; Rocket League isn't slowing down anytime soon.
