gamescom 2014: Hideo Kojima wants Silent Hills to be poop-inducing

Mission accomplished, Hideo Kojima.

Yesterday during Sony's Gamescom 2014 press conference, they announced that a new demo for P.T. is avaialbe immediately. It's a horror game and it's frightening and it scared me more than anything has ever scared me before — and that includes the time my whole group of friends I was with left me in a Halloween Horror Night haunted house all by myself.

If you beat the demo of P.T. — which stands for playable teaser — you got a cutscene at the end. I haven't beaten it yet; I'm stuck at not being able to get the phone to ring. That cutscene shows a foggy town at night, eventually Norman Reedus of The Walking Dead in video game form, and Kojima with director Guillermo del Toro for Silent Hills.

The playable teaser was an experiment for Kojima Productions as part of an effort to make a scary game in the Fox engine. In an interview streamed on Konami's Twitch, Kojima said, "Originally we were thinking a game that would make you pee your pants, but at this point we've changed our minds, and now we're aiming for a game that will make you shit your pants."

I'll just play naked while sitting on my two-year-old's potty training seat.

He went on to say, "One thing that you have to keep in mind is that, if a game is too scary, people just won't play it. In movies or attractions… if it gets too scary you just keep your eyes shut and soon it will be over. But if it's a game, people will just stop. So that's why there's a limit on how scary you can make a game.

"But in this case we're totally ignoring that and, you know what? If you don't want to keep on playing through the game, so be it. We don't care. That's the game we are aiming for, we're aiming for a game that will make you shit your pants. So, players, make sure you have a change [of clothes]."

I love everything I'm hearing, even though I'm deeply terrified. If you want to watch the ending of the playable teaser, watch the video below.
