Kakao Games is currently running one of the world's largest MMORPGs and while Pay-to-Win is a hot debate amongst its fan base, there's no arguing that Black Desert Online absolutely nails the look and feel of its world. Which is perhaps a big reason why instead of simply quitting the game in the wake of the on-going pay-to-win protests, players are picketing using their characters in the game. In celebration of Gamescom 2016, Kakao Games prepared a two-part Developer Diary showcasing the team's process on a number of Black Desert Online's features both big and small and they are definitely worth checking out.
Black Desert Online retails for $49.99 and uses two different pay models. The game is free-to-play for players in Korea, Japan, and Russia while players in Europe and North America have to buy the game in order to play it. Perhaps this might explain the cross-over in Free-to-Play features making their way into the European and North American versions.
