Gamescom 2016: NieR: Automata announced for Steam, both PS4 and PC version release early 2017

Platinum and Square Enix team up to bring us crazy

NieR: Automata, sequel to the 2010 cult favorite NIER, has now been confirmed as "console exclusive" to PS4, and will be available to PC players via Steam. After the delay that was announced earlier this year, NieR: Automata is scheduled to be released in early 2017 for both platforms. It is being developed by Platinum Games, a company well known for their approach to game design that emphasizes action-packed gameplay and tight but fluid controls.

The events of NieR: Automata takes place in the same world as, but is not a direct follow up to the events of, the original. This entry begins after otherworldly invaders unleash dangerous machines on the human population, forcing them to abandon Earth and seek refuge on the moon. Humans try to use androids to fight back, but it seems they are incapable of stopping the advance of the machine hordes.

That's when humanity creates a new class of android soldier: The YoRHa squad. Players will follow the story of 2B, 9S, and A2 as they battle the machines in order to reclaim the lost planet and discover the forgotten truth of the world.

Yeah, that sounds like a NieR story, and now the gameplay looks to be significantly improved with the Platinum touch. Check out the latest trailer here to see it in action. In the words of Father Rodin: Beautiful. You can also check out the Steam announcement from Yoko Taro below:
