Gamescom 2016: Tekken 7 gets cinematic story mode, complete with young Kazuya and Heihachi

Look at that evil little bastard

Cinematic Story Modes for fighting games are all the rage right now. Just look at Mortal Kombat X and Street Fighter V story modes for evidence. Fighting games are long past the era of some text and an ending cutscene for beating arcade mode, players want actual story modes, and Bandai Namco is delivering with Tekken 7.

What's more, the Tekken 7 story mode seems to cover events throughout the history of the series, as we see playable versions of child Kazuya and a younger Heihachi. There will allegedly be several hours of content in story mode, including unlockable “subplots” that let players experience character stories that are outside the main story arc, and earn bonuses such as new outfits.

The official press release for the story mode is as follows:

TEKKEN 7’s engaging story mode is composed of several hours of gameplay (including side stories that players can unlock progressively). Not only can you play as the Mishimas in Story Mode, but there are other arcs that involve fighters outside of the Mishima clan, such as Claudio Serafino, and his group of exorcists.

The Archers of Sirius are a group of exorcists who have been banishing supernatural entities from this world since ancient times. A highly secretive organization, its existence is unknown to the public. Although it is not known how their existence was revealed, the Archers of Sirius were suddenly approached by the Mishima Zaibatsu. They were heavy-handedly requested by the Mishima Zaibatsu to join their conglomerate, but naturally refused. This did not stop the persistent pressure from Mishima Zaibatsu, however.

Eventually, the news of this approach from the Mishima Zaibatsu reached the de facto leader of the Archers of Sirius, Claudio Serafino. Determined to uncover the motives behind the Mishima Zaibatsu’s actions, Claudio begins to investigate the powerful conglomerate.

It looks like Claudio Serafino is going to have something to do with the Devil Gene that has cursed the Mishima legacy for several generations. Will he be the key to ending the bloodline's curse? We'll just have to wait and see. Until then, enjoy some of these new screenshots:
