With the SNES Classic about to launch at the end of the month, some consumers are upset that they're having trouble getting their hands on one. The console is extremely limited and sold out in under 10 minutes at GameStop and under 20 minutes at Best Buy and Amazon. The only way to get the console now is by shelling out several hundred dollars on eBay and buying it from a scalper.
GameStop has been under fire for taking some of their allotted stock and bundling it with junk that no one seems to want and charging up to $330 for the $79.99 system. This has obviously angered customers as it seems to just be a way for GameStop and their partner ThinkGeek to clear out inventory and make a ton of extra money in the process. GameStop, however, sees it as something that's convenient for consumers.
"We really try to do a great job of paring up items with things customers like to buy. In the case of the Switch, we know the customer is going to want a way to charge the Joycon (controllers), so we often throw in a charging device. We know the Switch has limited memory and customers like to download games, so we'll add a memory stick. And then you need a game itself, because what good is a piece of hardware without a game to play with it? We make it more convenient. We put some items in the bundle from ThinkGeek.Com, retro items that would appeal to those buyers." said GameStop's Eric Bright when speaking to Glixel.
Do you find it convenient or do you find it more frustrating and annoying that you're given stuff you don't want at a much higher price than the actual thing you want? Let us know in the comments below.
