GameStop cancels midnight releases for Assassin’s Creed 3 in wake of Hurricane Sandy

GameStop retailers located in the northeast part of the United States — specifically those in the path of Hurricane Sandy — will not be participating in the midnight launch of Assassin's Creed 3, the company confirmed today. Mother nature just ruins everything!

"Our top priority is the safety of our employees and customers. In compliance with directives issued by state and local authorities, stores in the path of the storm will remain closed until it is safe to re-open and midnight openings for Assassin's Creed 3 have been canceled in the northeast," a GameStop rep told Kotaku.

Customers eager to find out when they can get their hands on the new action-adventure game should check with local stores for details on when they will re-open.

While disappointing news indeed, safety must come first. Even if that means having to wait another day to fight for liberty as Connor. With Ubisoft's plans to annualize the franchise, I suggest the next installment of the hit series deal with Connor fighting the forces of nature.

Hurricane Sandy is currently a category one and is approaching the east coast as I type this. Parts of the east coast have already begun to feel the effects of the wind and rain. As someone who lives and Florida and experiences hurricanes on a yearly basis, I wish everybody the best of luck. Be safe and remember to stock up on batteries and beer in case the power does go out. After all, you have to keep that PlayStation Vita and Nintendo 3DS charged!
