GameStop confirms ‘strong demand’ for amiibo crashed website

So much demand for Ness

Yesterday, Nintendo's latest line of amiibo figures became available for pre-order, and as we pointed out, it crashed GameStop's website. Of course, this was merely speculation as the message on the website claimed "down for improvements." However, in a statement released yesterday, GameStop confirmed the actual reason was technical issues brought on by "very strong demand" for amiibo.

"Due to very strong demand for the newest wave of Nintendo's amiibo figures, GameStop is experiencing some technical issues with our website," GameStop said in a statement.

"At this time, we are accepting pre-orders of amiibo in stores only while we resolve these issues," the statement continued. "We are working aggressively to resolve the technical issues as quickly as possible and expect it to be back online shortly."

While GameStop's website appears to be in working order today, the new amiibo are still not available.

Announced during the latest Nintendo Direct broadcast, the new set of amiibo in the Super Smash Bros. series features Charizard, PAC-MAN, Wario, Jigglypuff, Greninja, Robin, Lucina, and Ness. Of this batch, Ness is exclusive to GameStop, which probably explains why the site buckled.
