GameStop is sold out of the Nintendo Switch; won’t have more until sometime after launch

Surprise?

If you're looking forward to the Nintendo Switch but have yet to pre-order one, good luck getting one at release! Many retailers sold out within days and even hours, and GameStop is no exception to this.

GameStop is reporting that they have sold out of their allotted pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch and won't have any more until sometime after it launches. Bob Puzon, senior vice president of merchandising at GameStop, released a statement regarding the popularity of the console and have said that they are attempting to get more units from Nintendo as soon as possible.

“The fact that this initial allotment has been completely reserved in a matter of a few days demonstrates gamers desire for this fun and revolutionary gaming system, we’re working closely with Nintendo to get additional Nintendo Switch units, and will let our customers know when they become available. We encourage customers to visit www.gamestop.com/switch and sign up to be get updates about the product and availability.”

Nintendo of America's Reggie Fils-Aime spoke on how scarce the console/portable hybrid will be and said that they try to build their stock around the amount of people who would want one (obviously). Scarcity for a new console isn't really rare. This happens for most consoles, even non-Nintendo products. Xbox One and PS4 were pretty hard to find and PSVR headsets are still limited nearly 5 months after release.

Nintendo Switch releases on March 3rd, 2017 for $299.99. You can find a list of all confirmed games coming to the platform by clicking here.
