GameStop raises price on PS4 camera amid low supply

Video game retail giant GameStop has reportedly raised the price of the PlayStation 4's Camera peripheral, seeming in response to supply shortages.

When the PS4 launched last year, the camera was being sold alongside it for $59.99. Now, GameStop is selling it for $69.99, a $10 increase. While other retailers like Best Buy, Newegg, and Target report that the peripheral is out of stock, Amazon's third-party resellers have listed it for $99 or more.  So goes the law of supply and demand.

When pressed for comment, Sony didn't reveal specific sales figures, shipment or monthly production quantity but did say the PlayStation Camera "remains in high demand." Huh, who would've thunk it? Given the lack of attention or proper support the camera has received — at least compared to the Xbox One's Kinect — you wouldn't think many PS4 owners would be interested. Then again, with the PS4's livestream broadcasting taking off like it has, I guess I shouldn't be too surprised. Earlier this week, in revealing the latest PS4 sales figures, Sony also announced that there have been more than 3.6 million live broadcasts using the PS4's Share functionality.

"We've been pleased with the camera's popularity among PlayStation 4 owners," a Sony spokesperson offered.

For you PS4 owners out there, have you also purchased a PlayStation Camera?
