Garden Warfare 2 gets new plant classes, Mass Effect crossover character

Dr. Zomboss apparently made a trip to the Citadel

The perpetually goofy game about the war between plants and zombies just got even stranger.  In a brand new gameplay trailer unveiled at EA’s Gamescom 2015 Press Conference, we got an extended look at three new character classes for the plant side, Rose, Kernel Corn and Citron.

Rose is a sorceress that can cast spells, most notably turning enemies into goats. Kernel Corn is a field general that can call in air-strikes while Citron is a hybrid citrus fruit and walking battle tank whose secret weapon is something called an EM-Peach.  You just can’t make this stuff up.

Another addition to the game that is sure to delight fans of the original Garden Warfare, is the inclusion of Solo Play and Couch Co-op.  One of the consistent criticisms of the first game was how online-centric the experience was, but the developers have listened to the fan feedback and have corrected that omission.

The final twist in the presentation was the reveal of Grass Effect, a Mass Effect crossover spoof mech character that combines the humor of Plants vs Zombies with the N7 assault rifle and armor from the Mass Effect series.  The character is only available to players who pre-order the game, at least for now.

Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 will be launching for PS4, Xbox One and PC sometime in 2016, though no concrete release date has been given.
