Gary Oldman, Mark Hamill and Gillian Anderson cast in Star Citizen

Zorg, Luke and Scully walk into a bar...

Star Citizen is ambitious. That’s been its one consistent trait that’s lead it through crowd funding, industry squabbles, and extended development time. Chris Roberts’ Cloud Imperium previously delivered Wing Commander and Starlancer and that was enough reason for fans to toss $85mm towards the project. The space sim is promising a lot, unique linguistics including three fictional languages, dynamic economy, Oculus Rift compatibility, and Newtonian physics. Now they can add an all star cast of voice actors to the list of qualifications.

Via an announcement at CitizenCon, Gary Oldman, Gillian Anderson and Mark Hamill will all be featured, as well as John Rhys Davies, Mark Strong and others for Star Citizen’s single-player Squadron 42.

Celebrity voice acting in gaming has been on a huge upswing for the last several years with games like Until Dawn, Beyond: Two Souls, Call of Duty, Batman: Arkham City, and even Metal Gear Solid V featuring famous voices and it’s a trend that is likely to continue as not only gaming gains recognition as a valid art form, but the technology also advances enough to render these same actors into believable likenesses in game.

That said, given the beauty of Jean-Baptiste Emanuel Zorg, anything that puts Gary Oldman in space is a stroke of genius.
