Gasp! Ellen Page, star of Beyond: Two Souls, is not a gamer!

Stop the press! It has been reported that Canadian actress Ellen Page, the start of Quantic Dream's upcoming PS3 title Beyond: Two Souls is NOT a gamer! How is that possible!?

How is the star of a game which is set to release exclusively on the PS3 — considered by many to be the hardcore gamer's preferred platform — not a gamer herself? Well, as it turns out she's a pretty darn good actress, which is why game developer and director David Cage just had to have her.

"I only had one name on my list and it was Ellen Page," Cage told CVG.

"If she had said no I would have been in deep shit," he admitted. "For me it was really obvious it could only be her. We contacted her agent, we sent her a package with the script of our new game, a copy of Heavy Rain and a list of reviews for Heavy Rain, and a nice letter saying 'please, please, please, please, please'."

"And the agent came back really quickly and said Ellen read the script, and that she loved it and she would be happy to be part of it," Cage explained. "It was the script and her role that got her interested. I mean, I don't think she's into videogames – she played when she was young but she stopped like a lot of people do when they get older. She isn't excited by games in particular because, like a lot of people, she thinks games are all about guns, guns, guns."

If anyone has ever played Heavy Rain, one of Quantic Dream's most recognized titles, you'll know their games are about far more than just guns, guns, guns. And if you've seen the trailer of Beyond: Two Souls, or been following the development of the game, you'll see that David Cage wants to "create something different" with the game.

Back in July, Cage said his goal was to "surprise people, to give them something they want without knowing they want it. I want to create an emotional journey, a unique experience. I am not interested in giving them 'fun', I want to give them meaning; I don't want to challenge their thumbs, I want to challenge their minds."

It's that risky attitude and experimentation that attracted Page to the game. Inspired from the suffering that came from a shocking loss of a family member, Beyond: Two Souls is more about the emotional journey.

"But when she read the script for Beyond she knew it was a story, a script, something she can understand. Ellen is really adventurous; if you look at her filmography, she likes to take risks. She was in Inception, but also Juno and Hard Candy. She likes new things, she likes to experiment, and I think that's why she chose to act in a game," Cage concluded.

Page definitely has her work cut out for her. In August we learned that the script for Beyond: Two Souls is two thousand pages. Unfortunately, all we have to go by is the initial announcement trailer that we were shown back at E3.
