Gearbox's CEO Randy Pitchford had quite a bit to say during the Develop Brighton 2015 conference. While he spoke on the 'sadistic' nature of gamers during the event, he also spoke on a game that was revealed to be in development at Gearbox in 2011.
Brothers in Arms: Furious 4 was revealed during E3 2011, a year later Pitchford said the game was delayed indefinitely. At the time Pitchford said that game was still in development and had "evolved" since its initial reveal.
Three years since the delay, Pitchford has revealed that the game is still in development, but is in an 'incubation phase' while they work on getting partners to develop the game with. According the CEO, Gearbox has been working to keep the game 'authentic.'
Speaking with IGN, Pitchford revealed where Gearbox was in development for the game:
“I think the next Brothers in Arms game has to be authentic and we have been working on that,” said Pitchford. “I feel we have unfinished business there with both the fiction and the history and I’d like to get into that.
“Sadly it takes a lot of resources, energy and money to do what must be done, so it’s not something I feel I could completely do alone. I need good partners for it, so we’ve been talking to great folks but it’s really putting all that together that’s the limiting factor.”
"I feel like I’m on the brink of it, but we’re not quite there yet,” he added. “But we’re in the incubation phase with the next one there, for sure.”
It's interesting to see that they are still working on someone to partner with them on the game, four years after its reveal. To say that the game is still in an 'incubation phase' feels like a bit of a tease – it's almost as though Pitchford is saying, "We are working on something, we really, really are!"
