Gears of War developer Black Tusk Studios has changed their name, and will now be known as The Coalition.
This is not the first time the studio has changed their name. Prior to November 2012 the studio was known as Microsoft Vancouver. In November 2012, they changed their name to Black Tusk Studios.
The Vancouver-based team working on the Xbox franchise has changed their name to "speak to who they are as a team." The name is more than just a call to the studio's team effort, but to the main game series that keeps their studio running — Gears of War. The Coalition is a call to Gears of War's Coalition of Ordered Governments.
Two years after their name change to Black Tusk Studios, Microsoft acquired the Gears of War franchise from Epic Games. Gears of War executive producer and director of production Rod Fergusson was part of acquisition, taking up a role as head of Black Tusk Studios to oversee development on the series from then on. Fergusson is currently the studio head at the newly (re)named The Coalition.
The Coalition is working on a remastered version of Gears of War.
