Geoff Johns states that DC is learning from their previous films; Wonder Woman 2 in development

DC Comics' Chief Creative Officer and President, Geoff Johns, is someone the fans really look to when it comes to making good content in the form of DC characters like Batman or Superman. He's written some amazing comics and is sort of steering the ship on the DC films from here on out.

He co-wrote the recent Wonder Woman film and is serving as a producer on future DC films. In an interview with Variety, Johns explained how he and his team at DC are approaching future films after the negative backlash of movies like Suicide Squad and Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice.

“There are lessons from every movie. You would be silly not to analyze how a movie was received — what went right and what went wrong on the making of a movie. On Suicide Squad, the movie did incredibly well commercially. It didn’t work narratively. You had some great casting and some great characterizations, but where the story fell down was on narrative, on plot. We could do better. Batman v. Superman was tonally dark. People didn’t respond to that."

Johns went on to talk about how Wonder Woman really succeeded due to the fact it stayed true to the character and didn't try to dissect her.

Wonder Woman celebrated exactly who the character is, but looking at it, it’s not like we should change everything to be about hope and optimism. There’s nothing to change. That’s what these characters are.”

Johns also confirmed that Patty Jenkins and him have already begun writing the sequel to Wonder Woman and said they have a "cool idea".

“Patty and I are writing the treatment right now. The goal is to make another great Wonder Woman film. I had a blast making it with Patty the first time. We’ve got a cool idea for the second one.”

One person who has recently joined the DC family of filmmakers is Avengers director Joss Whedon. He has taken over production of Justice League following a tragedy in Zack Snyder's family which lead him to walk away from the project during the post-production stage. Whedon will direct reshoots and help make the movie come together by November. He's also set to direct a Batgirl movie which will come later down the line. Geoff Johns spoke about how gracious they are to have him and how the partnership came to be.

“He’s a big part [of the DCEU] already. We love him. He’s a great partner, collaborator; we want him to be ensconced. We bring people by, have general meetings and talk about comics and their favorite superhero movies. With Joss, he saw the master board, and he saw a Batgirl title and he said, ‘You guys seriously want to do Batgirl?’ And we said, ‘Absolutely.’ He said, ‘That’s my jam.'”

Wonder Woman is in theaters now and Justice League will open on November 17th, 2017.
