You might be wondering why George Lucas never returned to the Star Wars universe after completing the initial trilogy. Apparently, making the Star Wars films isn't as fun as people might think – there's simply too much pressure and no room for creativity.
"You go to make a movie and all you do is get criticized. People try to make decisions about what you're going to do before you do it – you know, it's not much fun," said Lucas in a view Vanity Fair. "You can't experiment, you can't do anything. You have to do it a certain way, I don't like that – I never did."
While Lucas plans on maintaining his distance from the franchise and has no intentions on returning to direct more, he still cares about it. In fact, one of his concerns with the new films is that the "Force doesn't get muddled into a bunch of garbleygook."
Lucas has a word of advice to The Force Awakens' director JJ Abrams on making Star Wars movies, that "there's more to it than just making space ships." He would also like to know what happened to Darth Vader's grandkids.
