The unofficial adviser and then later Lucasfilm’s first official fan relations officer, Craig Miller, has revealed the Star Wars director and creator had originally planned to make anywhere from nine to 12 Star Wars films. If that had occurred, Boba Fett would have grown into being the main villain – instead of the side-character bounty hunter that was eated by a monster.
Lucas' goal of growing Fett into the main villain can be seen in Empire Strikes Back, where Fett has a much bigger role.
“Originally Boba Fett was set up in Empire as a character, and the third movie’s plot was going to be more about Boba Fett rescuing Han Solo and all of that,” said Miller to Inverse. “Boba was gonna be the main villain… That was set up, why he was taking Han Solo away, why there was a thing with him in the Christmas special."
Unfortunately, when Lucas scrapped his plans to make the series longer, Fett got scrapped too:
“When George decided not to make a third trilogy, he completely jettisoned that story line, which is why in the first ten minutes, Boba Fett gets bumped into and falls into the mouth of a giant monster. So he took what was planned for the third trilogy, which was the confrontation between Luke and Darth Vader, and the battle with the Emperor, and that got squished down from three movies to one movie. And that became the plot of Jedi.”
There you have it. Your love for Boba Fett is completely valid. He was meant for so much more.
